INDUSTRY & ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Turning ideas into responsible practice.
Ideas acquire their real significance when they encounter the demands of implementation.
Across hospitality, property management, wellness, healthcare, aesthetics and technology, my work has involved developing businesses, improving operations, building partnerships and translating strategic ambitions into practical action. These experiences continue to shape how I approach entrepreneurship, leadership, teaching and research.
LEADERSHIP & OPERATIONS
Leadership becomes credible through execution.
My early leadership career was shaped by serving as General Manager of both an award-winning boutique luxury hotel in Soho, London, and a property management company.
Across these roles, I was responsible for commercial performance, team leadership, operational management, service standards and the coordination of complex day-to-day activities. The settings were different, but both required strategic priorities to be translated into consistent execution, while unexpected challenges demanded considered decisions under pressure.
These experiences established an enduring view of leadership: direction matters, but credibility is ultimately built through operational discipline, responsiveness and the quality of decisions made when circumstances do not follow the plan.
AREAS OF PRACTICE
Commercial performance, people leadership, service standards and the coordination of complex operational environments.
Building service-led and technology-enabled ventures from proposition and positioning through to implementation.
Supporting organisational growth through positioning, operational structure, service development and management insight.
Coordinating strategic priorities, stakeholder relationships and market expectations across organisations and cultures.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Building ideas into operating ventures.
Studio Montecosmet®
I founded Studio Montecosmet in Belgravia, London, moving from the management of established operations to the creation of a service-led venture.
Developing the business required the alignment of market positioning, service standards, client relationships and commercial viability. It also revealed the less visible work of entrepreneurship: refining a proposition, establishing systems and ensuring that the experience delivered consistently reflects the promise made to the market.
Entrepreneurship, in this sense, is not simply the act of launching a venture. It is the continuing discipline of bringing vision and operational reality into closer alignment.
Twiqk®
That perspective later informed the development of Twiqk, a next-generation information and provider-discovery platform for non-surgical aesthetics.
Twiqk brings together consumer education, professional credibility and industry participation in an environment where the quality and interpretation of information can directly influence decisions. Building the platform has involved balancing commercial sustainability with editorial impartiality, technological development and responsibility to the wider professional community.
The work reflects a principle that increasingly guides my approach to innovation:
Innovation is most valuable when it improves the conditions under which people make decisions.
STRATEGIC ADVISORY
Sustainable growth depends on internal capability.
My advisory work has included supporting the owner of a prominent London wellness clinic across business development and operations management.
The engagement addressed the practical foundations of growth: positioning, operational structure, service delivery and the conversion of strategic priorities into workable processes. It required attention not only to commercial opportunity, but also to the internal systems and service standards needed to support it.
This work reinforced the importance of treating strategy and operations as interdependent. Growth becomes difficult to sustain when the external ambition of an organisation advances faster than its internal capability.
INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Collaboration across markets requires interpretation as well as communication.
My international experience includes acting as the strategic liaison between a Swiss pharmaceutical company and its distribution partner in China during the development of an innovative prebiotic skincare product.
The project required the coordination of strategic priorities across organisations, markets and cultures. Communication extended beyond the transmission of information; it involved interpreting expectations, clarifying objectives and helping different stakeholders establish a workable basis for collaboration.
It demonstrated that international opportunities are rarely realised through commercial alignment alone.
International collaboration depends on trust, clarity and the ability to interpret different perspectives responsibly.
PRACTICE AS A SOURCE OF INQUIRY
Industry makes abstract questions visible.
Professional practice continually informs how I teach, research and write.
Industry reveals the distance that can exist between a persuasive idea and its successful execution. It shows how strategy is altered by culture, how information is interpreted through experience and how leadership becomes visible through consequences rather than intentions.
Entrepreneurship and industry engagement are therefore not separate from my academic work. They provide environments in which questions about judgement, trust, innovation and responsibility can be examined through lived decisions.
